Evelyn King

Back in her coastal kingdom

Evelyn King

Evelyn and Everett King love the outdoors, particularly their 16-acres spread located on Northern California’s beautiful, rugged Lost Coast. One overcast February day, however, Evelyn started having chest pains. Her husband took her to the nearest ER, 45 minutes away. Doctors there were concerned with their findings and wanted to transfer Evelyn to a hospital that could give her more specialized care. The nearest facility was about 150 miles away. Time was of the essence, but the weather had turned stormy, so much so that a helicopter couldn’t safely land to pick Evelyn up. Fortunately, Cal-Ore’s medically-equipped airplane was not far away. A ground ambulance delivered Evelyn to the plane, and the Cal-Ore flight crew delivered Evelyn to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where a room was ready and waiting. Evelyn had been afraid that flying in the storm would make the episode extra stressful, but she reports her flight crew was aware of her anxiety and responded accordingly. “The whole trip was handled so professionally,” she says. “The crew made me feel comfortable, and the fear went away.” At Memorial, Evelyn received the proper attention and has had no issues since. “I would never have expected everything to go as smoothly and comfortably as it did,” she shares. “The thing I remember most is the attention from the crew. They were really in touch with what was going on.”
