On the Road Again

Kelli Kuykendall

Kelli Kuykendall and five-year old son Nash were enjoying a long-distance road trip when Kelli realized she was having an allergic reaction to some medication. She’d experienced this before. “First I get hives from head to toe,” she says. “Then my blood pressure drops. Basically I go into shock.” Because she was alone with her young son, Kelli was especially worried. During at least two previous allergic episodes, she had passed out. The pair was in Brookings, Oregon, when Kelli had to pull over. She wanted to look for an ER or urgent care facility but couldn’t in good conscience stay behind the wheel with Nash in the car. She dialed 911, and 911 promptly dispatched a Cal-Ore ground ambulance to her location. Kelli was still conscious when the crew arrived. They gave her immediate medical attention, and they told her that Nash could ride along to Sutter Coast Hospital. “I can’t say enough about how great they were,” Kelli states. “They were really calm and very attentive, and they accommodated Nash’s needs, too.” Kelli was already starting to feel better when they arrived at the ER, but doctors kept her for observation to make sure she was stable. Cal-Ore’s quick response, efficient transport time and excellent medical care made a big difference. Says Kelli, “I have only the very best things to say about Cal-Ore, and it’s because of the service I received.”
